Leslie lives and works in Asheville, NC. She is influenced by the patterns and textures of African wood carvings and textiles, Japanese printmaking, and the color and compositions of Fauvist painters. As the daughter of an art teacher, she had all sorts of opportunities to experiment with art media as a child. Leslie studied at Wesleyan University, PNCA, Western Carolina University, Penland School of Crafts, and Anderson Ranch, and has taught art for several years in schools, programs, and private settings. She believes art permeates every aspect of life. She integrates nature with signs and symbols of our humanity, seeking to convey our push/pull relationship with the natural world in her work.
